Getting Started
What is CoSplit?
CoSplit is an expense tracking application designed specifically for separating couples to easily track and split shared expenses. It helps you log expenses, categorize them, set custom split percentages, and share reports with your co-parent.
How do I create an account?
Click the 'Get Started' button on our homepage, then enter your email address. You can sign up using a password or use our magic link option for passwordless login.
Is CoSplit free to use?
CoSplit offers a free tier that allows you to track up to 10 expenses. For unlimited expenses, PDF exports, and advanced features, you can upgrade to our Pro plan for $5/month.
Can I try Pro features before subscribing?
Yes! All new accounts start with a 14-day free trial of Pro features, giving you full access to all functionality. No credit card required to start.
Expense Tracking
How do I add an expense?
From your dashboard, click 'Add Expense' and fill in the details: description, amount, date, category, who paid, and how to split the cost. You can also attach receipts and add notes.
Can I create custom categories?
Absolutely! You can create unlimited custom categories with your own names, colors, and default split percentages. This helps organize expenses for things like medical costs, school fees, activities, and more.
How do split percentages work?
Each expense can have a custom split percentage. For example, if you set your split to 60%, you're responsible for 60% of that expense cost, and your co-parent is responsible for 40%. Categories can have default splits that auto-apply.
Can I edit or delete expenses?
Yes, you can edit any expense by clicking on it from the expenses list. You can update all fields, add or remove attachments, and delete the expense if needed.
What file types can I attach?
You can attach images (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, GIF) and documents (PDF, Word). Each file can be up to 10MB, and you can attach up to 10 files per expense.
Sharing & Collaboration
How do I share expenses with my co-parent?
Go to the 'Share' page in your dashboard and create a share link. You can set an expiration date and optional password. Send this link to your co-parent so they can view the expenses you've shared.
Can my co-parent add expenses too?
Currently, each person maintains their own account and expenses. You can mark who paid for each expense (yourself or your co-parent) to keep accurate records of who owes whom.
What can my co-parent see when I share?
When you share, your co-parent can view the expense list, details, and any attachments. They can also add notes to expenses for discussion. They cannot edit or delete your expenses.
How do I revoke access to a share link?
From the Share page, you can view all active share links and delete any link to immediately revoke access. You can also let links expire automatically by setting an expiration date.
Reports & Exports
How do I generate a PDF report?
Go to the 'Export' page, select your date range, choose which categories to include, and click 'Generate PDF'. The report includes a summary, balance calculation, and detailed expense list.
What's included in the PDF report?
Reports include: expense summary by category, total amounts paid by each person, balance owed between parties, and a detailed list of all expenses with dates, descriptions, and split information.
Can I export to CSV or Excel?
Yes! Pro subscribers can export expense data to CSV format, which can be opened in Excel, Google Sheets, or other spreadsheet applications for custom analysis.
